Pardon me while I rant about the fucking abomination known as Gossip Girl.
“In order to claim date rape, you have to say no.” - Blair Waldorf in 6x05
WHAT is the FUCKING deal with this show completely trivializing rape? It’s like they feel obligated to handle it poorly every single time it’s incorporated into a storyline.

“Thank you for not sleeping with Serena.” - Blair Waldorf to Chuck Bass
I honestly can’t. It’s one thing to disregard the pilot…. but Chuck spent a majority of the first season making unwanted sexual advances on Serena. Serena shut that shit down every single time; and we are thanking CHUCK for this? And using it as a reason for him to be an even more viable option for Blair romantically? BECAUSE HE DIDN’T SUCCEED IN HAVING SEX WITH SERENA? ALRIGHT.

Knowing what you do now about how important Chuck became to the show, if you could go back to the pilot, would you not make him an attempted rapist?
It’s hard to say. We’ve tried to incorporate that into his journey, to not just sweep that under the rug, and to address it at least a couple times every season so it’s incorporated into Chuck’s larger journey of figuring out who he is. And in fairness, Chuck was an attempted kissing bandit. - Stephanie Savage (x)

And he’s not the only kissing bandit on this show! It runs in the family.
Thankfully, though, both Chuck and Jack have been redeemed, by Gossip Girl standards anyway. Because attempting to rape someone is just something people do when you hit rock bottom. You should root for them to change instead of, you know, rooting for them to be charged with a felony.

If you want to be a part of the UES, Jenny, you need to get over it; sexual assault is part of the deal. And this is only made worse by the fact that, seasons later, Gossip Girl just straight up glorifies the UES lifestyle, affirming that, yes, “all this is worth it.” Better suck it up.
And BTW, while he never ended up sleeping with Serena, he did succeed in statutorily raping an underage Jenny Humphrey, albeit two seasons later.

But, according to Chuck & the show, this incident isn’t his fault. It’s no one’s fault.
“It was fate. Tragedy.”
Fantastic.
So, congratulations, Gossip Girl.

You actually succeeded in convincing viewers that asking for consent is really, really romantic.
Basically, you have completely fucking failed at life.
Happy Limoversary.
